Were Headed to the Big D, and I Dont Mean Dallas! #BigDataHR - Workology

Were Headed to the Big D, and I Don’t Mean Dallas! #BigDataHR This week on Blogging4Jobs, we are focusing on the theme Big Data sponsored by  Jibe. Jibe  provides cloud-based recruiting technology solutions that enable talent acquisition teams to strategically identify, attract and engage candidates. Join us April 10th 2014 at 3pm to talk Big Data on Twitter using the hashtag #BigDataHR and  join our webinar, Whats the Big Deal with Big Data in HR Recruiting on April 17th at 11a EST. Follow the week by  bookmarking us!   Ah yes Big Data, I see it mentioned in the HR world no less than 2 times a day. In fact if I am ever on a call and it sounds like they are starting to tune out, I just say “Big Data” and they immediately snap back, as if you actually told them how to plant a money tree. So why in the HR/Recruiting world are we all drooling over “Big D”? Because big data, when done properly, it gives us one huge advantage, it reduces uncertainty. Let me give you an example… picture how you do demand planning now. Usually it happens at budgeting time, you start by looking at your current headcount, and then where the company’s revenue is projected at, and finally the managers “Gut-feeling” forecast on what they believe their team makeup will need to be to meet goals. Now bring in Big Data to the conversation. You log in to a dashboard and are able to see what your sales are forecasted at, what the current skills set are available with your current employees, where those skill sets are located geographically, what is the likelihood that the employees can be trained new skills. Then add in what the current available skill sets are within your applicant pipeline, and finally how long it takes your company to find and hire a particular skill set. Think of how impactful those data points are when planning your future workforce? The reduction of uncertainty allows us to make better decisions. Please note, it doesn’t make the decision for us, but enables to have more clarity to make the decision. The cost savings of making wiser decisions has a huge impact for your company’s bottom line. That is the goal of the Big Data.
